Nelson Piquet, Brabham BT53 BMW, begins to come to a stop following heavy contact. Marc Surer, Arrows A6 Ford, is about to make contact with the Brabham.
Martin Brundle (GBR), Tyrrell 012, finished second but the team was disqualified after scrutineering for infringement of the rules. It was alleged that the water was in fact 27.5% aromatics and constituted an additional fuel source. The team were excluded for the 1984 season after the charge was upheld after appeal.
