Nigel Mansell (Williams FW14 Renault). After an awesome drive right from the start and almost a minute in the lead, he acknowledged the spectators applause on the last lap. But, as he was changing down from 5th gear on the approach to the hairpin his gearbox failed, selected neutral and then the engine died, leaving him cruely short of the win by only a few hundred meters. He was still classified in 6th position by the end.
