A computerised timing system, invented by Tony Fascenda (USA) Owner of Dataspeed, used by the officials to time the race to 1/1000s and keep note of race positions and qualifying times using transponders on cars. The technology was licensed by Tag Heuer and then to Longines and became the official timing system used by F1.
