(L to R): Ken Tyrrell (GBR) Tyrrell Team Owner and Derek Gardner (GBR) Tyrrell Designer on the Friday of the meeting took it upon themselves to begin repairing the large sections of guardrail that hadn't been properly bolted together. The drivers had refused to compete until the work was carried out; three drivers subsequently pulled out of the race as a protest.
