Ladbrokes made Jackie Stewart (GBR) Tyrrell the joint race favourite with Ronnie Peterson (SWE) Lotus, but it was Peter Revson (USA) McLaren, who had backed himself at odds of 14/1, who surprised the bookmakers with a maiden victory.
