Race winner Gerhard Berger (AUT) took the top step of the podium thanks to an agreement between Ayrton Senna (AUT) and the McLaren team that allowed Gerhard to pass Ayrton on the final lap. It was his first win for McLaren after nearly two seasons racing for them.
