Mark Donohue (USA) Penske (Sitting) talks with doctors after crashing his March 751 heavily at the Hella Licht during the Sunday morning warm-up session. Sadly his seemingly good health belied a brain haemorrhage which led to his tragic death two days later.

Mark Donohue (USA) Penske Racing Cars March 751, suffered a massive crash following a tyre failure at the Hella Licht Curve during practice. Although initially conscious, Donohue tragically died on the Tuesday following the race with a brain haemorrhage, and a marshal was killed too at the scene of the accident.
