John Watson (GBR) Brabham BT45B (Left) who retired from the race on lap 9 with a blown engine, is joined on the front row on the grid by pole sitter Jody Scheckter (RSA) Wolf WR1, who finished in second. The race was started with a flag as the lighting gantry had been broken earlier in the day.
