Nigel Mansell (Williams FW14 Renault) retires from the race as he runs over the kerb and spins off at First Curve. He had been right behind Senna into First Curve, when he lost downforce, sending him wide and into the gravel. His brakes had also given him a problem most of the weekend. Ayrton Senna (McLaren MP4/6 Honda) continued to take 2nd position.
