Alain Prost (FRA), Ferrari 641, leads the field into the first corner but is about to be taken out of the race deliberately by Ayrton Senna (BRA), McLaren MP4/58. Pole sitter Senna was aggrieved that his grid spot was set on the dirty side of the track and felt that a collusion was in place between Prost and the officials. When Prost made the better start, as expected, Senna started his course of action that took both drivers out of the race. The Brazilian was crowned the 1990 world champion as a result.
