Riccardo Patrese (ITA) Alfa Romeo 184T, snapped sideways leading to a multi-car accident on the first lap. The RAM 02 of Philippe Alliot (FRA) mounted the Tyrrell 012 of Stefan Johansson (SWE) and landed on the Alfa Romeo 184T of Eddie Cheever (USA).

Race winner Niki Lauda (AUT) McLaren (Centre) is lauded by third place finisher Ayrton Senna (BRA) Toleman (Right). The spectators were kept happy by Derek Warwick (GBR) Renault equalling his best ever result with a second place finish.
