Despite it being Renault's first GP victory and the first for a turbocharged engine, the race is best remembered for the thrilling battle between Gilles Villeneuve (CDN) Ferrari 312T4 and Rene Arnoux (FRA) Renault RS10 for second that eventually ended in the Canadian's favour.
