Vittorio Brambilla (March 751 Ford) celebrates his 1st position and maiden Grand Prix win. The front of his car is damaged because after seeing the chequered flag he raised his arms in jubilation, whereby he crashed into the barriers, but was still able to continue driving.

Pole sitter and sixth placed finisher Niki Lauda (AUT) Ferrari 312T (Centre) just leads at the start of the wet race ahead of second placed James Hunt (GBR) Hesketh 308B (Right) and eleventh placed Patrick Depailler (FRA) Tyrrell 008 (Left).

Mark Donohue (USA) Penske Racing Cars March 751 suffered a massive crash following a tyre failure at the Hella Licht Curve during practice. Although initially conscious, Donohue tragically died on the Tuesday following the race with a brain haemorrhage, and a marshal was killed too at the scene of the accident.
