A note from the Brabham team for Carlos Pace (BRA), who celebrated his thirtieth birthday with second place rather than the victory the team predicted. Team mate Carlos Reutemann (ARG) took victory in the final GP of the season instead.

A race meeting of totally contrasting fortunes: Emerson Fittipaldi (BRA) McLaren M23 finished fourth and in so doing secured his second World Championship title; Helmuth (Also spelt Helmut) Koinigg (AUT) was tragically killed - in only his second GP start - when his Surtees TS16/3 went off at a corner on lap 10 and ploughed through the steel guardrail at undiminished speed.
