It took over half an hour to free Ian Ashley (GBR) (Being placed into the ambulance) from the wreckage of his Hesketh 308E that somersaulted and hit a television tower during practice. Despite losing his helmet from the violence of the crash he suffered 'just' broken ankles and wrists.
