When Nigel Mansell (Williams FW14B Renault) 1st position, drove around on his victory lap the fans invaded the track as Mansell mania hit its peak. Track stewards tried in vain at the finish to hold them back and keep them from running into the way of the cars.

Fair Park, Dallas, Texas, USA. 6-8 July 1984. Nigel Mansell (Lotus 95T Renault) near to exhaustion, glanced a wall heavily and deranged the gear selectors on his car. He came to a standstill, then heroicly pushed his car to the line to eventually finish in sixth position. Due to this he collapsed with heat exhaustion but recovered quite quickly afterwards.
