Nelson Piquet (BRA) Brabham BT52B (Right) heads into the tyre barrier at Tarzan after being hit by Alain Prost (FRA) Renault RE40 (Left) on lap 42 when Alain lost control whilst trying to overtake him. Piquet retired on the spot, Prost crashed out later that lap having suffered damage to the front wing.

Carlos Reutemann (ARG), Williams FW07C, attempts to overtake Jacques Laffite (FRA), Ligier JS17, on lap 18. Reutemann then crashed into the side of Laffite briefly launching him into the air and then into the catch-fencing. Reutemann retired with broken suspension.

Clark finished in 1st position
