Nigel Mansell (Williams FW14 Renault) retired from the race after spinning off at First Curve. He had been right behind Senna into First Curve, lost a bit of downforce and ran wide over the kerb putting him into the gravel. His brakes had also given him a problem most of the weekend.

Marshals remove the Lola L91 Ford as medical staff attend to Eric Bernard after his bad accident at the end of Friday morning's free practice session. His car hit the wall with such force that he broke his left leg and cracked his knee-cap in the impact.
