Derek Bell (GBR) / Hans-Joachim Stuck (GER), Rothmans Porsche 956, lead at the start of the race. They eventually finished second. Bob Wollek (FRA) / Alessandro Nannini (ITA) / Lucio Cesario (AUS), Martini Lancia LC2, started alongside.
