Carlos Reutemann (ARG) Ferrari 312T2 locks up and runs wide at the first corner of the race having left his braking too late, narrowly being avoided by second placed team mate Niki Lauda (AUT) Ferrari 312T2. Reutemann would crash out of the race five laps later.
