A mechanic surveys the damage to the Ligier JS27 of Jacques Laffite (FRA) after suffering a major fire when the fuel injection pipe came adrift during Friday practice. Sadly a start line crash ended LaffiteÕs F1 career when he badly broke both his legs.

Virginia Williams (GBR) collects the Constructor's trophy on behalf of her husband Frank Williams (GBR) Williams Team Owner, who was recovering after his car accident, and in doing so became the first woman to collect the trophy on a Formula One podium.
