Nigel Mansell (Williams FW14B Renault) leads Jean Alesi (Ferrari F92AT), Ayrton Senna (McLaren MP4/7A Honda), Riccardo Patrese (Williams FW14B Renault), Michael Schumacher (Benetton B192 Ford), Ivan Capelli (Ferrari F92AT), Thierry Boutsen (Ligier JS37 Renault), Martin Brundle (Benetton B192 Ford) and Bertrand Gachot (Venturi Larrousse LC92 Lamborghini) at the start. Gerhard Berger (McLaren MP4/7A Honda) starts from the pit lane after suffering an engine failure on the grid and so jumped into the spare car, which was set up for Senna.
